Senior Security Engineer @ Kongsberg
Nils Holten is a Senior Security Engineer at the Kongsberg CyberSecurity Center (KCSC) where he works with penetration testing, red teaming, and incident response.
Started out working with computers in the Royal Norwegian Air Force, transitioned to defending them on a blue team in the private sector, and now spends his days breaking them on the red side.
Windows Subsystem for Linux has seen increased adoption in recent years. Working seamlessly across Windows and Linux makes development and day-to-day workflows much smoother.
Giving every user access to a virtualized OS where EDRs have limited insight does come with some security implications, however.
We will be going through how WSL works and achieves its high level of interoperability through Windows internals, what modern EDRs can and can't see, and some novel techniques to leverage WSL for stealth during red team engagements.
