Chief Research Scientist at Simula UiB

Håvard earned his PhD in cryptography in 2005 and has worked as a researcher in the field since then. He has worked as a Chief Research Scientist at Simula UiB for the last 10 years. Last year, he led the RCN-funded NorPQC project, designed to support Norwegian businesses and organisations with their transition to Post-Quantum Cryptography. He has also written about its urgency in digi.no. In his daily job, Håvard educates new cryptographers by supervising PhD students on topics in cryptography that are relevant for the future.

The clock is ticking on the cryptography we’ve trusted for decades. The quantum threat has become a concrete regulatory timeline, and currently deployed public-key cryptography will first be deprecated and then disallowed entirely. A worldwide migration to Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) is underway—yet for many organizations, the threat feels abstract, making procrastination the easiest path.

We will demystify the quantum threat that is forcing us to abandon our 70s and 80s crypto. We'll map the rapidly shifting (inter)national regulatory landscape and provide you with an actionable, best-practice roadmap for your PQC migration. Whether you are a CISO, architect, or engineer, you will leave aware of the migration challenges ahead of us all and be energized to start or keep on tackling them.
